Topic: Using Novel Disruptive Space Technology to Combat Illegal Fishing
Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU) is a global problem and a key driver in overfishing, population collapse and habitat destruction. It has a significant impact on the sustainability of fish stocks and the economic and social benefits derived from the commercial fishing industry. Globally the current economic impact is estimated to be up to 50 billion dollars.
ESpy Ocean takes satellite data and uses a novel system to provide the ultimate tools for identification of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and transport vessels. We provide intelligence reports that are timely and provide key decision-making information for successful compliance missions.
Currently working with vessels of all sizes above water, ESpy has commenced development of underwater detection capabilities using our proprietary method – focusing on sharks, pelagic fish and submersible vessels.
